PopUpCD 1.4.2
Remote control for your Mac's CD Drive
NOTE: Creator Brochu keeps PopUpCD updated. Latest version is 1.5.2.
I'm addicted to music wherever I'm working. So my Mac's CD-ROM drive is frequently occupied. That would usually require using Apple's CD player window, an entirely functional device but one that occupies a big chunk of desktop real estate.
Happily, there's a shareware replacement for your original CD window. PopUpCD is a full-function remote control that pops up on your desktop on command, then hides itself until you need it again. Compared to Apple's CD window, it's tiny. And you can pop it up anywhere on your monitor (your mouse location determines where it will appear, even in front of open windows). In other words, it's elegant and unobtrusive.
Also unlike Apple's CD window, most ordinary adjustments such as volume, track select, pause, resume, eject, etc., are accomplished with simple keystrokes and without opening PopUpCD on your screen. Ongoing activities need not be interrupted while you would otherwise open, hide, or move windows to find that pesky Apple window.
After installing PopUpCD by dragging it to your closed System folder, you'll want to tweak its Control Panel options. Then insert an audio CD and you're into musical nirvana.
Download PopUpCD (168K) from < http://sitelink.net/jbrochu/cd/PopupCDAbout.shtml >. Use it free for 15 days. After that you should pony up $15, about the cost of a basic replacement TV remote.
